At R-Map, we’re on a mission to understand, forecast and suggest ways to address the impacts of remote working arrangements on the spatial (including environmental), economic and social facets of the urban-rural divide in Europe. We base our research on the premise that bridging the urban-rural divide is a persistent challenge in Europe, with three distinct dimensions: spatial, economic, and societal. Remote working arrangements have an impact on all three dimensions and consequently on the urban-rural divide as a whole, complex phenomenon.
As remote work continues to reshape the way we live and work, we recognize the importance of exploring its effects on communities and economies. Our leaders and policymakers need to act fast in order to embrace the positive aspects of remote work and find solutions to meet the changing demands of the future workforce. By integrating various data sources and advanced modeling techniques, R-Map will enable policymakers to monitor and assess how RWAs affect people, communities, space, economy, and environment in urban and rural regions.
